Whimsical.Wedding.I

While I loved the Organic shoot, especially for fall, I am always.always drawn to pretty, pearly colors and light, airy settings.  Happening upon rows and rows of draping willows while scouting shoot locations was pure luck.  The whimsical 'park' look inspired a table set with the china I just never seem to use, and pretty, homespun napkin rings, table runners and hair pieces...
The pics above are just a taste, I'll be sharing another round shortly.  For now, visit the other Southern Suite vendors below for more:

Organic.Wedding

The gorgeous pics by Lani Elias (above) and Jack and Ruby Photography (below) are from the Southern Suite Perfectly Set Contest held this summer.
The old adage "It takes a village..." certainly seems to apply to weddings as well, and really is the premise behind the Southern Suite collective.  The Suite is a group of likeminded local talent; each offering a fabulous creative product or service to make 'the total package.'  After determining a 'look' for each of the shoots ("Organic" for the first shoot), all of the vendors used the theme to inspire their contribution to the shoot.
I had an amazing experience choosing the shoot locations, styling and coordinating the shoot, and creating the bride's headpiece.  The other Southern Suite artists include  - flowers and styling by Bloom / stationery by Paper Airplanes / Makeup by GLO Makeup Studios Hair by Shear Bliss Salon and Day Spa and Photography by Lani Elias Fine Art Photography and Jack & Ruby Photography.

Stay tuned for pics from the "Whimsical" theme shoot next week!
Happy Friday, and Happy Happy Weekend ya'll!

Happy.Thanksgiving

I took these pics at one of my favorite quiet little country nap spots.  It's pretty simple, but a book, a quilt and some warm fall sunshine makes me as happy as can be.  I just can't get enough of fall... despite a snow-scare this week, I'm hopeful for another couple months of golden, crispy fall.  Yup, for that I'd be extra grateful ;)
Happy (Canadian) Thanksgiving!

Hello all!  I've been busy settling into a new routine... but one thing I'm never too busy for is taking the time to put together some fall flavored outfits ;)  This here is one of my favorite get-ups this fall - I figure it pairs well with pumpkin spice lattes.  While I'm not usually quick to jump on such a trendy trend, I love.love.love the Navajo inspired boots.  And the hat.  If only there were more occasions to wear hats.
Hope everyone is enjoying September while it lasts - Thanks for stopping by!

Fairly Fall

Feels like it came outta nowhere - but it is officially September, baby!  Leaves are falling, mornings are chilly and I've been happily traipsing around the countryside in my beloved boots.
Oh yes, I've also been baking all sortsa pumpkin flavored things...
And (patiently) waiting for my dining/living room floors to dry so I can finally be done with the project that keeps breeding more projects.  Can't wait to share pics!

whirl.wind.week

Whew.  The last week has been a whirlwind of photo shoot madness.  I had an AMAZING time working with the other gals that make up The Southern Suite.  Each of us brought something unique to the table and the collaboration was a total success!  Just wait until you see the beautiful photos that came outta those shoots - I can hardly contain myself waiting for the pics to be ready to drop.
For now, I'll leave you with pics of two head pieces I made for last week that we didn't have time to shoot.  They'll be up for grabs, soon enough!

P.S. --- Isn't my sister a lovely little lady?  I sure think so : )

clean & sweep

I've been super into the house projects this month... cleaning and purging the joint of excess 'stuff.'  It's amazing how good it can feel to get rid of the things you don't need/use.  The kitchen was a bit of a battle for me - everything seems useful, but I certainly wasn't using everything hiding in those 60+ year old cupboards.  Who needs 3 complete sets of wine/champagne glasses?  Not I.  I'm one of those people who is always 'saving' things for an occasion (maybe I was waiting for the Queen to come to lunch before I used the 'good' dishes?!)  It makes very little sense in hindsight.  So, after paring it down, this is what I'm left with... One pretty set of mix & match dishes, one set of wine/champagne/beer glasses, and only the matching cutlery.  It looks good and it feels even better.
Yes.  I am still working on the floors... so it's not like I need another project, but looking at these pics, I can't help but think that the back of the inside of the kitchen cupboards would look pretty cute painted a  muted blue-grey... hmm, or a super soft mint....
Hope ya'll are enjoying the weekend!

Fall Fashion Preview: One Chilly Morning

Chilly mornings & warm afternoons... Dear September, you just may be my favourite.  It's happening again - the August Feeling - and it has me reading through posts from last August... perusing my fashion favs, fall must-haves and must-dos before summer's end.  It kinda strikes me how this season can feel so familiar and nostalgic, all the while bringing something new with it each year.
So what's it gonna be this time around?

PS - I WILL have that jacket for my very own : )

Great Grate!

After a quick and fun little camp-out this weekend, I was back at the floor project last night... and I kinda hit the first glitch.  It wasn't really a surprise, that mysterious bump in the floor has been there forever (possibly 111 of the house's 112 years, I dunno).  Anyway, a mild bout of stress, and hopefully that will all be resolved in the next coupla days.
In the meantime, more pulling staples, removing tack strips, and scraping underlay remnant for this girly girl!  I am already enjoying how much greater the grates look against a wood floor.

Right?!

hats.off

Some of my favourite furnishings are made-over thrift/auction finds.  Normally it takes a little more than a new 'hat' to breathe life into a tired piece - this shapely, oversized lamp is certainly the exception.  The original shade was in decent condition, just a bit on the granny side for my taste.  Swapping it out for a simple white drum allows the base do all the talking... and if you ask me, 'nuff said.
After an evening of wine and ideas, a good gal pal and I decided to investigate as to what exactly has been living under the layers of carpet and linoleum in the front rooms of my old abode.  We struck gold!  Er, actually, we struck wood.  4" wide pine plank flooring, to be exact.  As a result, my living room, dining room, and entrance hallway are getting a total makeover.  It is currently a state of chaos - there are staples to pull, gobs of underlay to scrape and a whole lotta sanding to get through before I'll be ready to finish the job...
Which buys me some time to decide how exactly I will finish this sea of planks...

Annnyway,
Happy Thursday ya'll!

Fashionably Behind the Times

I have been back and forth about one million times as to whether or not I should create a Facebook page for Dove Tree... Kindly, the decision was made for me this week.  Check the page tomorrow for an exciting announcement : )
Back to the drafting.  Back to the latte.
