The Garden State

Here I am, photographing my yard mid-season and keeping up as best I can with my Summer Goals for 2011.  We've had a lot of hot hot heat here this July, so things are maybe looking even more mature than usual for this time of year... everything is beyond full bloom and the planters are as filled-out as they can be without splitting wide open.  One plant that I was super excited to inherit with this home is the hydrangea (white bloom in the photos).  It's gorgeous and the perfect cut flowers to keep in vases around the house.  Hmm, and if I had to decide which of my own additions I'm most inclined to be proud of, I would have to go with the vines I planted around the porch and along the side of the house (Engleman's Ivy, Honeysuckle, Virginia Creeper, and another whose name is a mystery to me).
Thus concludes my yard and garden tour for the day : )
Happy Friday ya'll!

Behind the Scenes

I love this behind the scenes look at the shoot I did earlier this month with Jack and Ruby Photography and Paperback Films and had to share.  If you missed it the first time around, you can check out a preview of the shots here and the video trailer here.

Once Upon a Today

- I feel uncertain
- I miss people and places
- I want to go for coffee with an old friend
- I fear the unknown
- I should make change happen
- I could be strong
- I need to seek out inspiration
- I will drown myself in music
- I love the blue skies
- I may go on a photo adventure
- I am grateful

Maintenance and a Mishap

An afternoon filled with maintenance, an oops and editing has left me a little on the un-inspired side of things today.  On the bright side, I did get to check things off of my to-do list and I finally got the lovely pictures above into my portfolio section.  So, forgetting the mishaps and mysterious disappearing acts... I'm off to spend this rainy evening in search of some ideas to get me back to revved up and project-happy!
Wish me luck : )

Summer Goals

A BIG BIG thanks to Laura for rescuing this post I wrote last week from the blog post abyss : )

I mentioned earlier that I've been pondering what will be important to me this summer for some time now... I got a real kick in the pants on this one when I realized it was already halfway through July.  (How bad is it that I've been going entire weeks without knowing the date?).
Absentmindedness aside, here they are:

-Take lots of flowery pictures and document my yard/garden.
-Spend every second that I can outdoors, soaking up the season.
-Ride my bike more often (so far, so good).
-Paint my nails... yeah.  Maybe. Maybe not.
-Get back into practicing yoga... I get a gold star for this one so far - I went to yoga in the park 3 times this past week.
-Spend oh-so-much time with friends.
-Read for pleasure, draw for fun and paint because I'm inspired.

What are your goals for the warm weather months?

Oy.  Some of my recent posts have gone astray... so, instead of trying to put them together again, I've decided to just re-post the pictures that went missing.  For now anyways.  The Summer Goals 2011 post may just be lost forever.  I'm kinda bummed, but hey! What can ya do?

Sunglasses - Forever 21
Purse - Forever 21
Button Rouge Tank - ModCloth
Necklace - Forever 21
Belt - Forever 21
Jeans - Gap

This outfit is actually from last Thursday (is that cheating?)... It was wide leg jeans and cropped tops around here.  Love that look.  I also am diggin' this mustard colored purse I picked up a few months ago, it just seems to go perfectly with all of my favorite summer colors.  (I'm obviously talking about coral and mint).
Okay, so I've been a little bit MIA on weekends lately... and will probably continue to do so for the rest of summer.  I've been having some great, lazy weekends - just relaxing with friends and, like usual, spending ALL my time outside : )  This past weekend was no exception.  Patio drinks with friends on Friday, a birthday BBQ bash on Saturday (Happy Happy Jenna-Loo!) and a quick over-nighter stateside Sunday...

Forest Fairies & Sun Flare continued...

Dove Tree | Art & Design Trailer from Paperback Films on Vimeo.

As promised... a preview of the second part of last weeks shoot.  I'm over-the-top excited about what Mark and Chris of Paperback Films put together as a trailer for the final product.  There are so many gorgeous shots and plays on light in just 20 seconds of film.  These two have serious skills - the kind that I can't even pretend to know about (technology what?!).  Ha.  In all seriousness, I am SO thrilled that these fellas agreed to take on a lil' Dove Tree project because I know that I'm going to LOVE what they create for me!  Thank you guys!

PHOTO.SHOOT: Forest Fairies & Sun Flare

The reason behind all of these sun-kissed pictures is going to remain a bit hush-hush for now.  HOWEVER, after all the talk of prepping for this shoot, I just can't help but to share a few of the beautiful photos from last Thursday...

All of the hours of designing and sewing, plotting the picture-perfect locations, piecing together looks, hunting for accessories, etc, etc, etc. are SO worth it when you get to see it all come together better than you could have even hoped for.  I am completely amazed by how perfectly Becky and Kara of Jack and Ruby Photography nailed my vision for this shoot.  Thank you, thank you to both of you gals!
I'll drop a preview for the second half of this lil' project later on - more beautiful lighting and images to come... this time in motion.  LOVE.

The Littles

Well that was quite the little internet hiatus I took there... a whole weekend.  What?!  Unheard of.  Ha.  I will admit, it felt pretty good to take a little break and shut down that blogger part of my brain that is constantly thinking about things in terms of how I will write about them... or IF I will write about them... or if anyone will even be interested in reading about them... ETC.
Yesterday evening turned into a fun excursion with my friend, Megan, and her two cutie pie kiddos, Andie and Cohen.  401 shots later and I have about 200 outtakes and 201 super sweet pics of The Littles.  We topped the evening off with ice cream and tickles.  Wow, are those two ever precious!
I've been listing my summer goals for the last couple of weeks... I think it's time to move them from the napkin beside my keyboard to typewritten word.  Commitment time.
So, coming soon: I pledge, I swear...

Sunlight & Lace

I'm still flyin' high from last nights shoot... and when I woke up this morning to find this gorgeous photo waiting for me in my inbox, I couldn't resist sharing.  It conveys EXACTLY what I was hoping for and more - BEAUTIFUL!  Even in a perfect world, I'm pretty sure the evening couldn't have gone any better... the timing worked out, the locations were a hit, the lighting was absolutely great and the crew were amazing!  HUGE thanks to Kara and Becky from Jack and Ruby Photography and also to Mark and Chris from Paperback Films!  And HEY!  I can't forget to thank Miss Jenna for modeling, you are a true beauty, my friend.
Happy Friday to ya'll!

Well Shoot, Dolly!

I took this pic of the lovely Jenna-Loo back at our test shoot for one of the locations we'll be using today... Just to give ya'll a lil' hint at why I'm SO EXCITED for today.  I can only imagine what the pros will do with this kinda setting : )
Here I go - Off to get ready for photo adventures today with Jack & Ruby and Paperback Films!

Wednesday, July 6, 2011

I will admit, I've been a little bit absent from the online world the last couple of days... Aside from all of the sunshine distracting me, I've been running around gathering goodies, scouting locations and mentally plotting sets for the Dove Tree photo shoot with the Jack & Ruby gals tomorrow.  I am OVER-THE-TOP excited right now (even more so with the coffee shakes I have going on)!  I've been waiting for this for a looong time, gathering ideas for months, and so, so looking forward to working with Kara and Becky again (recall: Girls are a Girl's Best Friend).
Let's add a little bit more excitement to tomorrow's adventure... The gents behind Paperback Films, Mark and Chris, have also agreed to take part.  Similar to J & R, I am amazed each and every time I see something these guys produce - Wow.
I feel so overwhelmed to have such talent along for the ride tomorrow.  And maybe, just maybe, a wee bit nervous.  Eee.
(Thanks to ya'll and can't wait to work together!)
SO.  Back to pulling looks and accessorizing with me : )

Take a Seat

This chair is going to change everything.  Well, in the very least, I will no longer have a sore bottom end from sitting on my wooden drafting stool at my desk for hours on end.  Plus, it's kinda pretty.  Plus, it's kinda white.  Plus, I do love white.
*sigh* MUCH better!

Headband - Pie N' the Sky
Sunglasses - American Eagle Outfitters
Top - Wet Seal
Beaded Bracelets - Forever 21
Leather Bracelet - Dove Tree
Shorts - American Eagle Outfitters
Sandals - Target

Today was another cooker - hurray!  I'm so happy in the heat and humidity.  Finally, a chance to get into the summer wardrobe - it's one season that's just too short around here if you ask me!
I did manage to squeeze a whole lot into my HOT HOT Monday:

-the usual morning bits of email and office work
-a long coffee-fueled walk with my Hawaiian visitor
-a whole lot of running around for the photo shoot that's happening Thursday
-two adventures on my bike
-some more work
-a walk with another good girly friend
-a visit with family from out West
-yet another long walk (solo this time, to clear the head space)
-and hmm, now a bit more work...

Then I'll do it ALL over again tomorrow.  I'm keeping my sanity with the giant 'to-do' list by sandwiching work with lots of outdoors and exercise (as per the list of todays activities).
G'night ya'll and Happy 4th to all of my Stateside friends!

I found this post on Deanna's blog, Barefoot Love and wanted to share my version with ya'll...

-Daydream.  ALWAYS.
-Keep a look out for inspiration, you never know...
-Am drawn to character, charm, and whimsy
-Wonder what I should be when I grow up
-Wonder if I'll ever grow up
-Hope that I never do grow up

-Walk around town for hours without realizing how long its been
-Hold on, when I should let go
-Want to move somewhere consistently warm or consistently fashionable
-Forget how tall I am
-Feel like I'm too tall
-Love being too tall

-Know where I left my keys
-Wear high heels for anything but photos
-Skip dessert
-Want to live in a brand new house filled with brand new things
-Sing in front of anyone, but...
-Go a day without music

Thanks for the prompt Deanna... and to everyone else out there: What does your always.sometimes.never list look like?

--- And there I go again... another black and white photo. ---

Sunglasses - American Eagle Outfitters
Necklace - Dove Tree
Tank - Mossimo
Vest - Wet Seal
Shorts - American Eagle Outfitters
Moccasins - Minnetonka

Another warm weather outfit... and it finally is ACTUALLY warm out.  I definitely did have to swap-out the mocs for sandals in the afternoon, but I wear my moccasins whenever I get the chance.  It's like being barefoot, nothin' better : )  I've had this vest for years.  It's so comfy and I love the crochet detail and the cut of the racer back.
It's Saturday and there's a lot to do after the holiday yesterday - but there will definitely be some taking advantage of the sunny day as well!  I just can't sit still on days like this... a walk, a swim and then back to work... right?!
