I've been thinking on these ideas all week and after the mild panic that happens when there's a new lot of syllabi lying around, I am certain that this is what needs to happen in 2012:
1.  Maintain Friday as 'project day' - this means nothing but coffee, painting, sewing or whatever other creative endeavour is crying for attention... there are 6 other days of the week for homework after all.
2.  In the short term: complete the big project involving the photos from THIS shoot - which includes a blog makeover, listing a TON of pieces that are done and waiting to be sold in a new shop location and... the last part of this overhaul project is still a *SECRET* for now.
3.  Finish the 3 paintings currently on the dining room table and find more reasons to paint more often.
4.  I'll group the health goals all into one tidy package since it's all about adding variety to the running/weights scene: find another yoga class, so I'm practicing with instruction 2x/week; find a place to swim after school once a week.
5.  This last one is hard to summarize and will likely sound vague - but I've got a lot of decisions to make for the year, regarding next school year and business-wise too... I guess Goal #5 is to get this all sorted.  (Confused?  Me too.  Lol).
Hey! It's Friday and according to the goals for 2012, that means it's time to brew some espresso and enjoy an afternoon with those unfinished paintings.
Happy Friday ya'll!

Just thinking through the whole New Year's eve thing this afternoon... making party plans and loving these festive paper decorations.  All this New Year's business also has me plotting my non-resolutions at the back of my mind.  I'll definitely share when I have them figured out... and re-hash last year's while I'm at it.  What sorts of goals are ya'll setting for 2012?

Libraries & Ladders

Just to be clear, when I posted about my dream library earlier, I was envisioning something a little more unorthodox than say "Beauty & The Beast" style digs.
Now that we're on the same page...

Pretty & Readable

I've confessed it here before: I'm a book junky.
When I was a kid, I dreamed of someday owning a house with a library... with bookshelves from floor-to-ceiling and a sliding ladder.  I also dreamed of a pony and a mint green Fender Strat.  Funny how none of these things have quite panned-out.  Ha.  I guess I'm still working on the library - or, more realistically, at least a solid collection of pretty and readables.
I think this Emily Chalmers book looks like a lovely read and I'm thinking it will have to be the next book purchase... or maybe Santa read my wishlist and he'll pull through?!
(Ahem, Ma).
I *THINK* I may have finished my painting order last night... well, nearly.  Just a few touch-ups left.  However, I haven't looked at it yet this morning - I'm just hoping I don't have my usual "hate it, hate everything about it" post-painting meltdown.  This feeling usually subsides within a day or two, but quite frankly, I have no time for the meltdown with SO much holiday fun to catch-up on.
Fingers, toes and whatever else crossed - here's hoping I've got all the loose ends tied up with it before long!

Hue & Hum Christmas

I realize I'm a total late-comer to the 'December Party' but now I'm really in the mood for a little festive fun.  My crazy talented friend Caitlin from over at Hue and Hum and her rocker husband took some time to collaborate on a Christmas album this year and it's just *BEAUTIFUL* (yip, that would be a sample above).  You can buy the album here, or hey!  If you're an iTunes'er, check it out there.
I'm getting back into painting mode, very much encouraged by the copious amounts of coffee consumed over breakfast cookies with my girl, Jenna-Loo...
Merry Pre-Christmas Tuesday ya'll!

Back Where I Belong...

This entire post is essentially one BIG *happy sigh*
I've been totally MIA since classes ended and the dreaded finals began, but semester 1 is all squared away as of the weekend.  It's taken me a few days to recover (3 consecutive 9:30am sleep-ins to be exact), but today I'm happy to be tackling the pre-Christmas to-do list.  It's kind of a miss-mash of cleaning, errands and last-minute Santa's lil' helper sorta stuff... to be followed by a LARGE latte and a painting session for an order I need to get done this week.
I'm looking forward to tackling everything on that list... except maybe cleaning the bathrooms.
Hope ya'll have been well and wow am I happy to be back!

Stark & Graphics

I'm workin' away on my latest (and very last) graphics assignment this morning, creating a magazine spread using Adobe InDesign (which I am LOVING).  So far so good - I'm using these gorgeous photos from an issue of Elle Decor - the apartment featured belongs to Ashley Stark, you can check out the whole article here.
I'll be ready to send this to print by lunch (fingers crossed).
More coffee please.

Champagne by Starlight

If only I had a reason to make a lil' splurge for that Betsey Johnson number... gorgeous!  Also lovin' number 3 - that is one diaphanous lil' mini.
It was another early Monday morning around here - and this is me using my break between classes appropriately.  You know, slaving away over my graphic design project... and my history paper... oh, and that painting that's due Thursday and still just looks like white primer...
Okay, I'm on it.  Just had the urge to throw somethin' pretty out there this morning before getting down to the not-so-thrilling paper writing.

Gold & Guilt

I do have a another 2 rounds of oh-so-pretty party dresses to share with ya'll, but I had to start with the picks that fit my holiday color obsession: gold, bronze and pewter.  So warm and so beautiful.
TRUE LOVE, for sure.
So far, this student has only signed-up for a holiday party or two - hoping I start finding reasons to dress-up more often as the semester ends.  I am a sucker for dresses.  Any excuse to buy another will do just fine... any excuse at all.  Or, if I'm being honest, sometimes no excuse at all.
(I'm ashamed, kind of).
Enough holiday dreaming for one morning - it's back to writing final papers for this girl.  There might just be a gingerbread latte 'incentive program' going on in my head... maybe.
Hope ya'll enjoy your Saturday!

Wednesday, November 16, 2011

You know how that rule about wearing white after Labor Day is so ridiculous?  That's how I feel about limiting the bohemian look to summer... ECLECTIC just feels right to me all year long, inside and out.  The outfit in the first post could absolutely be styled for a holiday party, the booted-wonder with the caravan would look even cozier if she threw on a pair of knitted tights... and the interiors?  Totally charming.
It's Wednesday already!
I'm running off to school to hand-in 2 of the LAST 6 assignments... not quite seeing the light yet, but I'm thinking I will be having a massive EXHALE a week from now.
Time for this gal to coffee-up and hit the road...

How prrretty.  The new lookbook from Ruche is JUST the nudge I needed to feel a little festive... It's so perfectly cozy.
It's got to be gingerbread tea with my homework today.
*happy sigh*

Talk about going MIA!  Wow.  I've been flying under the radar on all fronts... except when it comes to the books.  Midterms are done, final papers are under-way and the semester is winding down (happy sigh).  There have been some tech issues around here lately, to top-off the study mayhem, so forgive my absence please : )
Hmm, it is starting to feel a little festive around here... so this may well be the last leafy photo before the snow flies (and sticks... I'm not counting the cold-white-stuff 'incident' on Monday morning).  Probably time to share some holiday favorites and cozy wardrobe posts.
Back with some of that sorta goodness soon!

Top 3 Fall Wardrobe Favorites: #1

Sunglasses - American Eagle
Necklace - Forever 21
Cami - Urban Outfitters
Skirt - U.O.
Bracelets - F21 & Dove Tree
Cowboy boots - Vintage
I know, I know... again with the 'outtakes' haha.  Some days I'm just really not in the mood to stand still - which makes posts like this kinda hard to pull together.
I've been studying away the day in preparation for an art history exam tomorrow... to the point that I'm not sure how my EngRish skills are anymore, what with all the Italian terminology floating around in my head-space.  That being said, this study-buddy needs to hit the hay!
G'night moon,
--- What color of tights would ya'll wear with this mis-match in cooler weather?

Top 3 Fall Wardrobe Favorites: #2

Sunglasses - American Eagle
Necklace - Forever 21
Top - F21
Cami - Urban Outfitters
Bracelets - F21 & Dove Tree
Shorts - F21
Tights - F21
Boots - Aldo
And another.  This has got to be about the comfiest get-up in the fall line-up.  Seriously.  It is *almost* as comfy as sweatpants and definitely earns more points in the cute n' cozy category.  How is it that I've survived all these years without knitted shorts?  And why does my Gram only knit mittens and scarves, when what I really need is these shorts in every color?
(Just a little deep, philosophical knit-think for you this Sunday eve).
Must say, I quite enjoyed my Sunday this time around... early morning coffee with a lady friend and her lil' guy, a long walk, litttttle bit of studying, supper with the parents AND a trip to the car wash.  Yes, the car wash is the grand finale - I LOVE that place (see why here - #7).
Now just waiting for my graphic design presentation to dry so I can pack 'er up and call it a day.  Monday sees me on the road at 6:45am (ew), so I will attempt to nestle into my bed early tonight...
G'night Moon.
(Sometimes pictures just happen to all look like outtakes).

Top 3 Fall Wardrobe Favorites: #3

Sunglasses - American Eagle Outfitters
Necklace - Vintage
Dress - Forever 21
Tights - Forever 21
Pumps - Pimkie
Hey-hey ya'll... as promised earlier this week, here I am with the favorite bits from my fall wardrobe, starting with my 3rd favorite outfit (actually, it all started with my 4th favorite the other day).  I've always loved mustard, but it's not the easiest color to find - that is, until this season.  It makes a great accent color and adds a little hit of color to the accessories.  Lovely.  I haven't worn this dress to school yet - maybe with opaque tights, a grandpa cardigan and flats it would seem a little more classroom-worthy.
I'm just in from a Saturday night glass of vino with one of my best gals.  The whole day was great really - I sandwiched the studying for my art history midterm between a coffee date with the cuz and his fiance and a go at the gym.  That's the only way to do it if you're stuck in the books on a Saturday.
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!  More on the fall wears soon.

I've written about my obsession with white, whitewash, white wood, etc etc etc before (here)... just having a moment over white interiors with wood and industrial accents today and thought I'd share some of photos that are to blame.
It seems I'm already well into my Friday morning... I was up at the crack o'dawn and I've already sent my graphic design homework to the printers, edited some pictures, organized November ads and hey!  Written this blog!  Something tells me I will fall asleep with my face in my art history notes this afternoon...
I wish you all the very best Friday...
Happy Weekend!

Top 3 Fall Wardrobe favorites: #4

There's a fall wardrobe favorites post on the docket for this week... here's a little peek at the outfit that didn't quite make the top 3.  I posted on this ModCloth dress last September, but it's still a favorite so I've just given it a little re-mix, adding accessories in this season's go-to colors.  The scarf and tights are Forever 21, the necklace is vintage, the shoes are foreigners that I picked up in Vienna a few years ago (Pimkie) and the sunglasses are AE.
Wednesday and, by the way, it's already October 19th.
Okay.  Who has a brilliant costume idea for me?  Someone please save me from pulling a last minute ballerina again!

Monday, October 17, 2011

This is me lately... IMMERSED.  Submerged would maybe be a more accurate term.  It's been long days and projects due all over the place.  I'd be a total LIAR if I said I wasn't a wee bit overwhelmed - I'll admit it.  I should also say that I'm okay with it - it's what I signed up for.  I think I'm just missing the solitude of working at home, being creative all day long.  Schedules and due dates are kinda creativity killers for this gal... naaahhht good.  It's all about balance, right?!
I do however, have a bunch of posts in progress... wardrobe posts and haunted house tours and what-not.  So.  Stick with me, I'm going to do my very best to be less of an absentee this week.
Hopefully I don't sound like a Monday morning grump...
Monday just needs some coffee.
Best to ya'll!

G'night ya'll.

It's Raining Leaves

RED.  Not a color you see much of on this blog... it doesn't match and I'm mildly obsessed with coordination.  Plus, it's just not my color.  That is, until I met this tree up by the lake - I had to stop and take a few shots of this kinda *perfect* piece of fall.
(click on the top 2 images for larger view)
This week has blown by - I've been taking in as much of the October heat as possible by studying outside when I can, yoga classes started up again (thanks for the interim help Rodney Yee, but I'll take real life classes any day), and I renewed my gym membership.  I've also been gearing up for (Canadian) Thanksgiving this weekend and enjoying every bit of the season... any and all things cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin, clove and gourd!
Lots of feeling good this week for sure : )
